Discover Haa

Two hours drive toward the southwest of Paro valley lies a tiny isolated district of Haa. Haa offers many historical and cultural sites. One can catch a glimpse of the impressive mountain pass called Cheli La. Haa valley is perhaps the best place for bird watching, mountain biking and hiking owing to its steep valley with a narrow floor and rugged mountainous terrain and almost 78% of Haa is still under forest coverage which is home to many rare species of flora and fauna which include the White Poppy (Meconopsis Superbia) which only grows in Haa valley in the entire world. Haa valley is also home to numerous nomadic herders.

Getting to Haa

Haa valley is 61kms away from Paro international airport which takes about 2 ½ hours crossing the idyllic Chelele pass and from the capital city of Thimphu, one can drive to Haa which takes about 3 ½ hours crossing the Chuzom river (river confluence).


Haa valley experiences warm days and pleasant nights in summer with 22°C and in winter the temperature drops to -2 degree Celsius with occasional snowfall.
